Out of a total global zinc production of 11.1 Mt, 10.6 Mt is refined zinc, of which 4.97 Mt is categorized as either primary zinc (mined) or recycled zinc. The remaining 5.63 Mt (53%) is unclassified. Production from recycled sources is estimated to account for 7.5% of the 4.97 Mt classified volume. Furthermore, recycled zinc production consumes 76% less energy compared to primary zinc mining.
